Our district uses Response to Intervention (RTI) to help students be successful. We screen all students K-8 at least twice a year in reading and math using MAP Growth by NWEA to be sure they are working on grade-level. This assessment and other evidence help us know who needs additional support. When there is a need for intervention beyond the classroom teachers’ instruction, Eanes ISD offers two tiers of intervention, Tier II and Tier III. Teachers and specialists monitor students’ progress in the interventions, and when students have closed their learning gaps, they no longer need intervention beyond the classroom instruction. We keep parents informed at every step: entry into another tier, progress and exiting that tier.
If a student has gaps in reading or math indicated by grade level assessments, teacher observations, and other evidence, a specialist will be providing Tier II intervention 4 times a week for 40 minutes. You will be regularly updated on progress by the specialist and notified when intervention is no longer needed.
Sometimes students do not make progress at a rate to meet the goal of closing the learning gap. When this happens, teachers and staff meet to review the student’s progress and may suggest changing an aspect of the intervention. We will keep parents informed and welcome any input. If the student still does not make expected progress, the student may have a disability requiring specially designed instruction. If this is suspected, the student may be referred for an evaluation for additional services. Parents will be notified for consent if referral becomes necessary.
If you think your child has a disability, you have the right to request an evaluation for special education (Tier III) at any time. Please see the Parental Request for a Full and Individual Evaluation through special education for information on this process. You may have questions about your student’s intervention and progress, so please contact your child's interventionist at any time.
